A Dispatch From The Delaware XC State Championships
- - -
The Delaware XC powers went head-to-head once again on Saturday at the state championships.
On the boys side, Salesianum School covered Brandywine Creek State Park with success, claiming the Division I victory with 37 points, a full four points ahead of Middletown, which followed with 41.
In the end, though, each team's fifth runner were the deciding factors.
Middletown led after three runners with 11 points, and then again after four runners, totaling 23. Salesianum, meanwhile, was at 14 and 24 in those exact same positions.
But in a sport that values depth, it was Salesianum's fifth that scored the victory, with Sam Felice's 13th-place finish in 17:18.70 being the deciding factor.
Padua Academy, meanwhile, notched another major victory on the girls side, gathering 21 points to cruise to its latest state title.
All five of its runners finished inside the top 10, with Sophia Holgado winning the overall race in 19:10.80.
