The Podium: More History-Making Champions Emerge

After a week of action that included the most extensive state championship excitement of the season, it's worth noting some of those state meet performances.

The four athletes featured on The Podium this week all won individual titles, including three state champions and a middle school national champion.

Some of those champions even made school and state history with their stellar showings.

The Podium (Nov. 8):

Taytum Goodman, Springlake East (TX): Captured her third consecutive win at the UIL Texas 1A State Cross Country Championships with a finishing time of 11:11.20 on Nov. 5. Goodman crossed the line in first by over a minute to commandingly take home the title.

Owen Clemons, Cleveland (TN): Won his the first Tennessee Class AAA state title of his career with a 15:22.47 5k performance on Nov. 5. Clemons became only the second freshman to ever win the AAA individual title in meet history, and the first to do so since 1998.

Jenna Walters, Virgin Valley (NV): Placed first at the Nevada 3A State Cross Country Championships for the first time in her career, clocking 19:58.30 for 5k. That finishing time reset her own 5k Virgin Valley High School record and was the first sub-20-minute 5k race of her career.

Riley Comstock, Edge Running Club (GA): Took home first place in the championship boys 4k race at Middle School Nationals in Louisville on Nov. 5, winning his seventh-straight race to stay undefeated on the season.
