Wayzata Sweeps Minnesota State Title Races

Out in Minnesota on Saturday at the state championships, it was a showing of the ages for the Wayzata program.
In the Class AAA boys and girls races, Wayzata swept the top spots on the team podium to highlight the championships.
Like she's done all-season, Abbey Nechanicky stole the show once again the girls race, winning in a new meet record of 16:47.61.
Nechanicky became the only girl to ever go under 17 minutes for 5k at the state meet and on the St. Olaf course, breaking the previous record of 17:03.40 set by former state great Emily Covert in 2018. It's also the Colorado commit's first individual state win of her high school career.
And Nechanicky also came away as a winner with her team, too. Wayzata scored just 39 points to win the meet by 50 points, putting four runners inside the top 20 overall finishers to secure a title.
