Northwest Programs Stand Out Over The Weekend

Results spread across races in Eugene (OR), Beaverton (OR) and Seattle (WA) were important this weekend. 

Out in Oregon, we'll start at the Midwestern League Class 5A-2 Championships. No. 9 Crater began to tune up toward the postseason with a dominant 18-point victory. 

Using a 15:37 team average behind two elite-legs in Tyrone Gorze (14:41.4) and Josiah Tostenson (15:28.4), the team from the Southeast of Oregon looks to be among the top contenders in the Northwest Region. Gorze racked up a 195-speed rated performance with the time. 

North of Eugene we'll continue to Beaverton, where the Portland Jesuit boys rolled toward a perfect 15 at the Metro League Class 6A-2 Championships. 

The No. 4 team in the country compiled a 180 speed rating average -- with three runners over 180s -- and had three runners under 15 minutes for 5K, including Jacob Nenow (14:52.2), Gus Clevenger (14:57.8) and Caden Swanson (14:58.4). 

The girls of Jesuit, as an aside, compiled an 18:17 average and scored 23 points, defeating Sunset by 22 points. 

And then lastly, we have to venture north even further, to Seattle, where Bishop Blanchet, which was on our national radar to begin the season, has begun to charge forward. 

The private Catholic school from. Seattle compiled a 16:19 average to score 30 points, dispatching a solid Seattle Prep team (45) behind sophomore Vincent Recupero, who finished with a top time of 15:52.1. The team's speed rating average of 171.6 was tops from the program this season.
