Kicking off the weekend, Adam Furman of Tri-Valley (NY) and Cornwall (NY) senior Karrie Baloga shined brightly at Bear Mountain State Park.
Last weekend, Baloga won the Burnt Hills Cross Country Invitational with a new personal best for three-miles in 16:26.30 and earned a speed rating 161, the highest by any girl so far this season. She followed up on that performance with more dominance.
The national-title contender continued her undefeated season as she clocked a 16:33.40 for three-miles to earn the OCIAA XC Championship title for the third year in a row. Baloga earned her second straight 160-or higher rating, making her the only girl to reach this mark twice in the 2022 season.
Ava Carsley, a senior from Valley Central (NY), finished two minutes behind Baloga as she clocked an 18:33. The third-place finisher was eighth grader Anna Furman of Tri-Valley who stopped the clock in 18:41.
The University of Colorado commit led Cornwall to the team title with 52 points over Monroe-Woodbury's (NY) 65 points. It was a close finish for third, but James O'Neill High Schooly (NY) came up with the 86 points to be the third-best team that day.
In the boys varsity race, Furman defended his OIAA XC Championship title and was able to earn his third straight win with a new personal best of 14:57.50. Furman had a four-second advantage over Monroe-Woodbury's Collin Gilstrap and Collin Catherwood. The teammates rounded out the top three finishers in 15:01 and 15:11.
Gilstrap and Catherwood contributed to Monroe-Woodbury's team title as all five scoring runners finished in the top 10 to earn 29 points. Tri-Valley was second with 71 points and Goshen finished third with 147 points respectively.
