Today marks the launch a new MileSplit weekly series highlighting high school athletes from around the nation with their own unique and notable accomplishments.
"The Podium" features and celebrates the heart of the sport of cross country/track and field -- the thousands of athletes that dedicate parts of their lives to it. Each Tuesday, we will spotlight four individuals who have reached new personal achievements, whether breaking all-time bests on the cross country course, winning their first race or everything in between.
Take a look to see who made it on The Podium in the series' first installment and their commendable accomplishments.
TEXT "PODIUM" TO 31032 TO SUBMIT ATHLETE NOMINATIONS
The Podium (Oct. 18)
Amanda Overgaauw, Murray County Central (MN): Won her 19th-straight cross country race at the Adrian Ellsworth Dragon Invite, running 18:38.39 for 5k.
Grant Bohannon, Hidden Valley (OR): Finished seventh at the Crater Track Twilight in 15:56.58 for the first sub-16-minute 5k of his career.
Melisse Djomby Enyawe, Corona del Mar (CA): Gapped the field by one minute to win the small school race at the Orange County Championships in 17:24.6 for three miles.
Jake Dentler, Greer Middle College Charter (SC): Became the second athlete in school history to dip under 16-minutes for the 5k in cross country with his 15:55.37 5k PR at the Starlight Invitational.
