MileSplit's 20th-ranked boys recruit will be keeping his talents in the Pacific Northwest.
On Tuesday afternoon, Tyrone Gorze, the senior out of Crater High School in Oregon, announced in an Instagram post that he will head to the University of Washington beginning next fall, where he will join their track and cross country programs.
"Excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Washington," wrote Gorze in the social media post.
Gorze, currently ranked third on the MileSplit50 boys cross country rankings, has put together a heck of a year thus far in 2022, opening up his senior cross country season with a 13:42.80 win at the Woodbridge Classic for three miles.
That stellar cross country debut came just weeks after competing at the World U20 Outdoor Championships, a berth representing the United States that he earned thanks to wins in the 3,000m and 5,000m at the US U20 Championships in late June.
Prior to his noteworthy outdoor campaign that ran well into the summer, Gorze had a breakout junior cross country season, placing sixth at Eastbay Cross Country Nationals in 15:26.40 for 5k in his first appearance on a national stage.
The senior holds elite personal bests of 14:29.30 for 5k and 13:42.80 for three miles during the cross country season, along with PRs of 14:08.08 for the outdoor 5k and 4:08.24 in the full mile on the track.
The Washington men's cross country program, led by Andy Powell, ranks 26th in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll.
