Abby Faith Cheeseman Is Back And Making An October Statement
- - -
Abby Faith Cheeseman pushed until October to make her season debut on the course following her stellar 2021 freshman campaign.
But, arguably, she's now back -- and better than ever.
The sophomore out of the Webb School (TN) clocked a new US No. 17 5k of 17:04.50 at the Frank Horton "Night" Classic on Saturday, taking the win in the varsity race by over a minute.
That also makes for a nine-second personal best for Cheeseman, whose previous PR of 17:13.8 came almost a year ago at the Tennessee Middle Regional Championships.
It also comes just one week after her season opener at the Jesse Owens Classic in Alabama where she clocked 17:19.00 for first place in the silver race, good for a 142 speed rating.
Cheeseman will be someone to watch now through the rest of the month and into the postseason, and if the trend continues upward for the impressive sophomore, she will look to find herself in the nationals conversation come December.
