We will be in for a treat this weekend as Connor Burns looks to have a big performance at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
"Training has been going pretty well," Burns told MileSplit's Olivia Ekpone recently. "I ran in a couple of races. I haven't gone super hard yet, so I'm hoping to have a big effort at Chile Pepper."
Last year, the Southern Boone (MO) High School athlete finished second with a time of 14:56.30 in the boys (elite) Caliente section to set a new personal best in the 5K. A year later, he's the top returner and is looking to put together a fast time, face great competition and have some fun on the course.
Burns, a high school senior and Oregon signee, enters the meet with three solid performances underneath his belt as he clocked a lifetime best of 14:22 for three miles and ran a season best of 14:57 for 5K last weekend at the Gans Creek Classic.
After an exciting junior season, Burns made history by becoming the 15th boy to break the four-minute mile barrier during the spring. His 3:58 at the HOKA Festival of Miles capitulated his confidence leading into his senior year.
