As we near the end of September, many athletes have already posted big improvements on the cross country course.
Looking at the junior class, many have shown great progression since their freshman seasons, and some have posted rather significant year-over-year improvements.
Malcolm Oakes of Convent & Stuart Hall (CA), for instance, barely ran under 22 minutes for 5k as a freshman in 2020. In 2021, Oakes clocked a 16:49.15 best to improve by over five minutes from his freshman season. Now in 2022, the junior has run a best of 16:03.50 to make for a combined difference of over five minutes from his freshman year 5k best to his new PR.
On the girls side, it's Clara Tubbs from Issaquah (WA) that's shown the most improvement, dropping over nine minutes off of her 5k time since her freshman season.
