Cross country is in full swing and Helen Sachs is right there in the mix with the competition. In her third race of the season, the sophomore won the 5K at the MSU Spartan Invitational in her third-fastest performance in her career.
Sachs clocked a 17:15.76 and earned a high 151 speed rating for her efforts. At the time, she was the second-fastest high school girl in the state at this distance.
During the week, Sachs earned 46-percent of the votes to be named this week's National Girls Performer Of The Week.

Here are the nominations for the third National Girls Performer Of The Week Poll:
Abbey Nechanicky, Wayzata (MN): In an elite field at the Roy Griak, she grabbed the victory in 17:37.9 to earn a 152 speed rating.
Izzie Sullivan, Fayetteville-Manlius (NY): When faced with a handful of potential contenders for the New York Cross Country state title, Sullivan pulled through with a victory with a 17:30 at the Baldwinsville Invitational. The sophomore earned a 148 speed rating for her efforts.
Angelina Napoleon, Allegany-Limestone (NY): Napoleon dominated her competition at the East Aurora Invitational where she was the only girl to break 18-minutes for three-miles on this high school course. Her time of 16:59 earned her a 147 speed rating.
Karrie Baloga, Cornwall (NY): Baloga opened up her season at the Ocean State Invite at Goddard Park in Rhode Island with a 17:07 5K finish (151 speed rating). The University of Colorado commit ran the second-fastest time in history on that course.
Jane Hedengren, Timpview (UT): After battling an injury, Hedengren didn't skip a beat at the Bob Firman Invitational. The sophomore clocked a new 5K personal best of 17:25.80 to break the meet record and run the No. 8 all-time performance on the Eagle Island State Park course.
Isabel Conde De Frankenberg, Cedar Park (TX): The junior continued her undefeated season at the HOKA/McNeil Invitational. She finished the three-mile course 30-seconds ahead of the rest of the field with a 16:39.30.
