The Scoop: Elite Matchups, Big Debuts And More

* Irene Riggs of Morgantown (WV) broke the course record at the Red, White, and Blue Classic

Remember the name Irene Riggs.

The No. 5 runner on the MileSplit50 preseason rankings showcased a jaw dropping performance at the Red, White, and Blue Classic.

From start to finish, Riggs, the Morgantown (WV) senior and Eastbay Nationals qualifier, was in control of this 5K race in White Oak, Pennsylvania.

Her first mile was in 5:01 -- which Riggs was shocked about.

As the race continued, she received miscues from the spectators twice which had her get off course for a couple of moments. However, that didn't stop Riggs from pushing on.

The Stanford commit ran her first race of the season in 17:03 and broke the previous course record of 17:26, which was set by Mia Cochran last year.

Riggs finished second in this race last year with a 17:29.
