The Butler men have consistently been one of the better cross country teams in the Great Lakes region since Matt Roe began coaching the program in 2007.

Over the past 15 years, the Bulldogs have consistently found themselves on the fringe of national qualifying, often placing fifth or sixth in their region and even advancing to the NCAA XC Championships on a few occasions.

But after slowly building a national contender, Coach Roe has seemingly struck gold with his most recent men's cross country teams.

During the pandemic-altered winter cross country season, Butler finished 13th overall at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the Bulldogs' best result in the Roe era.

In the ensuing fall, Butler once again advanced to the national stage.
