No. 19: Andrew Hauser
- - -
School: Rock Bridge (MO)
Year: Junior, Class of 2024
2021-22 Notable Finishes: 25th at RunningLane Cross Country Championships with a 5k PR and new Missouri record of 14:38.15; First at the MSHSAA 5A State Cross Country Championships in 14:52.70. Also won a 5A outdoor state title in the 1,600m in 4:11.72.
Analysis: Hauser enters his junior cross country season at Rock Bridge having already made a name for himself as the fastest boys distance athlete to take the course in Missouri history.
A standout sophomore season in 2021 saw Hauser clock a record-breaking performance in the 5k of 14:38.15 to break the all-time Missouri record at the cross country distance, a time which also earned him 25th at RunningLane. In the weeks prior to RunningLane, Hauser also earned the Class 5A state cross country individual title behind his first sub-15:00 5k performance of 14:52.70.
Hauser capitalized on that momentum built during cross country come track season, winning a state title in the 1,600m in 4:11.72 and clocking an impressive 9:05.11 3,200m personal best.
Now, it's worth noting that Hauser will face another Missouri talent - sub-4 miler Connor Burns - to fight for the title of the best distance runner in the state. However, earning state championships and a state record as just an underclassman surely makes Hauser one to beat not just in Missouri, but on the national stage in 2022.
