2021-22 Notable Finishes: Second at the OHSAA Division 1 State Cross Country Championships in 15:58.10; Clocked nationally-ranked times of 9:03.67 for the outdoor two mile (US No. 21) and 4:11.17 in the indoor one mile (US No. 6).
Analysis: As a senior this year, Ackley has the potential to end his high school cross country career on a rather high note. He had a stellar 2021 campaign where he ran under 15 minutes when it counted most at the Ohio Division 1 Cross Country Championships last November, finishing second in 14:58.10. He followed up his cross country season with noteworthy track performances, running a US No. 21 time of 9:03.67 in the two mile and 4:10.98 for one mile.
Ackley just opened up his 2022 season this past weekend with a 15:29.70 5k performance at the OHSAA Early Season Invitational to put him toward the top of the national rankings at the distance. If he continues building on his solid debut on the course, Ackley could emerge as not only a favorite to win the Ohio state meet, but find greater success on the national stage.
