2021-22 Notable Finishes: Sixth at Eastbay Cross Country Championships in 15:26.40; First at the Eastbay West Regional in 15:10.20. Ran a 5k PR of 14:29.30 at the Crater Twilight 5k. Also won the 3,000m in 8:21.03 and 5,000m with a time of 14:08.08 at the USATF U20 Championships during the outdoor track season.
Analysis: Arguably, Gorze enters the fall as one of the most intriguing athletes, coming off of a successful junior season that included both national and world championship racing experiences.
Gorze finished sixth at the Eastbay Cross Country Championships last December and dipped under 15 minutes for 5k four times, which makes him a very legitimate returning national title contender. He holds a 5k cross country personal best of 14:29.30 that ranked him 15th in the nation last season.
But Gorze holds a rather unique edge over other competitors. He comes into cross country having just competed in the 5,000m at the World U20 Outdoor Championships in early August. Before that, he won both the 5,000m and 3,000m at the USATF U20 Championships that helped him earn that elusive ticket to the world stage.
Now, his extended track schedule that delved well into the summer could be a factor when it comes to his cross country training, but if Gorze can recover well, he will be a national title contender this fall.
