No. 14: Jimmy Wischusen
- - -
School: Union Catholic (NJ)
Year: Junior, Class of 2024
2021-22 Notable Finishes: 16th at RunningLane Cross Country Championships with a 5k PR of 14:33.94. Also ran 4:09.90 for one mile and 8:56.41 in the two mile at New Balance Nationals Outdoor to place ninth and fourth, respectively.
Analysis: Wischusen returns to the course this fall as the top junior in the nation at 5k with a personal best of 14:33.94, and even as a new addition to the upperclassmen ranks, he enters primed with plenty of championship racing experience.
He finished 16th at RunningLane last year with that time of 14:33.94 as just a sophomore and a part of a rather strong Union Catholic squad in New Jersey. This year could be more of the same for the New Jersey team as they open the season among our top-ranked MileSplit50 boys teams. With Wischusen at the helm gunning for potentially a top-15 or top-10 finish at a national meet, Union Catholic could certainly find themselves in a position to improve upon their fourth-place team finish at RunningLane in 2021.
Wischusen followed up his stellar sophomore cross season with a 2022 outdoor track showing that featured a US No.11 two-mile time of 8:56.41 for fourth at New Balance Nationals.
When you look at Wischusen's entire 2021-22 competition year from the beginning of cross to the end of outdoor, he had quite the notable a sophomore class performance. He'll perhaps be the best runner in the class of 2024 this cross country season and also one of the best overall racers in the nation.
