GREENSBORO, N.C. -- There was no clear favorite in the boys championship 100m heading into adidas Outdoor Nationals on Saturday, which made this race one of the more anticipated events of the weekend.
Quite simply, it was a stacked field.
But Danarrion Ard was ready to have his turn in the spotlight.
Ard, a senior from Eagles Landing High School in McDonough, Georgia -- an athlete who's felt like he's been doubted all season when it comes to the sprints -- was looking for his moment to come out and top.
He put everything together in Greensboro.
While Micah Larry of Montverde Academy (FL) had the best start of the race, it wasn't long until the rest of the field caught up: Jordan Ware, Nigel Ancrum and Ard started closing in on that separation.
Ultimately, it came down to the wire.
Ard was the first boy across the finish line with a wind-aided mark of 10.25 (+2.5) seconds.
Ancrum, the winner of the National Elite section on Friday, and Ware were second and third, respectively, with times of 10.29 and 10.34. Larry finished fourth with a time of 10.39.
