It was Rheinhardt Harrison's turn to make history.
For the last several months, Harrison has been chasing the goal to break four minutes in the mile. He even refused to get his license until this mission was accomplished.
Everything finally came together for the Nease (FL) High School senior on Friday as the Oregon signee claimed his sub-4 mile with a time of 3:59.33 at the Golden South Series #2 meet.
He was on pace for the first 409 meters and then hit 2:01 roughly after two laps into the race.
From there it was Harrison against the clock. The crowd was on their feet as they helped him come through the finish line in 3:59.33.
He is now the fourth boy this season to break four minutes in the mile and also the first boy from Florida in history to do so. Rather remarkably, he's the third boy in two days to break four minutes in the mile.
Harrison joins the likes of Colin Sahlman, Gary Martin and Connor Burns to accomplish this feat.
Harrison spent much of the spring focusing on the 800m, where he won a Florida state championship in May. He broke 1:50 a total of four times and ran a PR of 1:48.05.
Harrison last ran the mile in April at the Bolles Showcase and ran 4:14. Indoors, he clocked a new career best at the Tyson Invitational back in February, falling short as he posted a time of 4:01.15.
