For The Record: Cuthbertson Is Getting Ready For Penn Relays

Six is the number. 

A total of six high school girls teams have broken nine minutes in the 4x800 all-time at the Penn Relays. 

And no team has done it since 2018. 

But if Cuthbertson has anything to say about it in 2022, the North Carolina squad might add their name to the list of all-time great squads. 

In April, the Cavaliers will travel to Franklin Field to pursue that very task. 

"Knowing the history of the race and seeing how competitive it's been over the last couple of years, we're really excited to be able to step out there and race other extremely competitive teams," Cuthbertson junior Alyssa Preisano said. "It's an honor to be invited and obviously race as hard as possible and do our best.

But if it happens, it wouldn't be the first time the team will have achieved it. The squad from Waxhaw, North Carolina first broke nine minutes in March at Nike Indoor Nationals, winning a national indoor title in a time of 8:59.85 behind the likes of Alyssa Preisano, Justine Preisano, Stella Kermes and Charlotte Bell. 

Recently, MileSplit sat down with the foursome -- a team consisting of one junior and three sophomores -- to talk goals, hopes and aspirations as they look ahead in 2022.
