Leo Young Runs Four-Flat, The Sahlman's Go 1:48 At APU MOCs


It was a wild night of high school track and field action at the APU Meet of Champions on Saturday as Newbury Park secured a handful of top performances on the Azusa Pacific University track. 


Boys Mile: Panthers junior Leo Young ran the nation's fastest 1,600m and mile time, logging an en route effort of 3:59.32 and a mile best of 4:00.77. His brother, Lex Young, was second in 4:04.68 (en route 4:03.13). Senior Daniel Appleford was fifth in 4:12.49. Teammate Colin Sahlman paced the early laps. 

Boys 800m: NAU recruit Colin Sahlman barely edged his brother, Aaron Sahlman, a junior, at the finish line, netting a winning and U.S. No. 1 time of 1:48.84, while Aaron was second in a U.S. No. 2 mark of 1:48.91.

Girls 800m: Senior Samantha McDonnell, an Alabama recruit, went 2:08.33 to win, netting a new U.S. No. 1 time and a PR by seven seconds.
