VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA -- Quincy Wilson is quickly becoming a must-watch athlete.
On Friday at adidas Track Nationals, the 14-year-old eighth-grader from Chesapeake, Virginia and 757 Track Club produced a personal- and career-best 400m time of 48.81, which is just a shade faster than his previous top mark of 49.21. He also ran 50.00 in February.
That former time was the fastest ever by an eighth-grader indoors. It's also among the top 50 performances nationally in the U.S. this year.
And the kicker? The rising star kicked off the two-lap race without starting blocks.
As Wilson came off the second turn with a commanding lead, he had the spectators roaring and on their feet.
He crossed the finish line and celebrated his victory.
Based on the MileSplit database, Wilson improved on his national eighth-grader record from a 49.21, which he ran last weekend at the AAU Indoor Nationals.
