WATCH: Sadie Engelhardt Clocks Fastest Freshman Mile Ever

The nation's top freshman girls miler solidified her part of history on Saturday.

Sadie Engelhardt, the highly-esteemed Ventura (CA) High school freshman, ran a new U.S. No. 1 mile mark of 4:38.24 on Saturday at the second installment of the Sundown Track Series, posting the fastest freshman mile performance of all-time. That performance was also the fifth-fastest in high school history.

Like last May, when she ran a new age group 15-year-old world record at the RunningLane Track Championships, Engelhardt used the efforts of a pacer through 800 meters. But just like 2021, the result came.

She's also now one of 10 girls to go under 4:40 all-time.

Engelhardt improved upon her career best time of 4:40.16 from 2021 and surpassed Mary Decker's former mark of 4:40.10, which was hand-timed back in 1973. Engelhardt officially surpassed Decker's freshman mark -- she also ran faster as an eighth-grader.

Emma Hadley was second in 4:55.12, while Morgan Nygren was third in 5:03.67.
