Cade Flatt was in a league of his own on Saturday.
The Marshall County (KY) senior and Ole Miss senior became the sixth high schooler to go under 1:50 for 800 meters at the UK High School Invitational, clocking a U.S. No. 2 time of 1:49.76.
In any other year, that performance would top the charts. But it's been a special year. The current No. 1, Will Sumner, who owns an all-time mark of 1:48.14, ran in the 200m and 400m on Saturday inside Nutter Fieldhouse.
That left Flatt to star in the half-mile.
And the Ole Miss recruit sure did, gapping the field shortly after the 300 meter mark as he turned on the gas and went for history.
That performance is a new Kentucky indoor record and it was just four-hundredths of a second shy of the all-time state mark of 1:49.31, which Tretez Kinnaird claimed in 2012.
