VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA -- On the first day of action at The VA Showcase on Friday, spectators inside the Virginia Beach Sports Complex were able to witness history in the girls invitational 300m.
There was a huge uproar and commotion as Shawnti Jackson, a junior from Wakefield (NC), crossed the finish line in 36.95.
Jackson ran the second-fastest all-time performance in this event, set a new national junior class record and clocked the third-fastest time in the world for the current 2022 season.
The only girl who has run faster in high school history is the national record holder Sydney McLaughlin, who clocked a time of 36.82 seconds from her senior year in 2017. Jackson improved on her previous US No. 1 time of 38.06 -- and her career best 38.02 as well -- by over a second and dipped under Francena McCorory's 37.60 junior class record.
But Jackson's mission at the VA Showcase isn't over quite yet. She will compete in the 60m finals on Saturday.
