Hana Moll Skies For Junior Class Pole Vault Record In Texas

Hana Moll began the year by setting a record. 

But that isn't too surprising, considering the Capital (WA) High School junior is among the best high school pole vaulters in the country and whose sister, Amanda Moll, owns sophomore national class records in the indoor and outdoor pole vault. 

This time, though, it was Hana's turn to make a dent in the record books. 

She cleared a career best mark of 14 feet, 7.25 inches (4.45 meters) at the Texas Elite Pole Vault EXPO Explosion on January 1 in Belton, setting a new junior class indoor record, the No. 2 mark in indoor high school history and tying for the seventh-best mark and fifth-best individual effort across any season, alongside Desiree Frazier and, you guessed it, her sister Amanda, who cleared the same mark on June 6, 2021.

The indoor national record, currently held by West Seattle (WA) graduate Chloe Cunliffe, stands at 14-9 and was last accomplished in 2019. But there are similarities to both. Cunliffe, like Moll, also trained and competed for the Northwest Pole Vault Club, which is led by Tim Reilly. 

And Hana's mark comes just five months since her previous PR of 14-4, which came at The Outdoor Nationals in Eugene. Hana won a national title with that performance. 

On Saturday, Hana was the only competitor in the elite high school girls section over 14 feet. Her sister finished second with a height of 13-7 (4.15 meters), while Tomball Memorial's (TX) Molly Haywood, Coppell's (TX) Sky Schuller and Liberty's (MO) Rachel Homoly were third in 13-1.5 (4.00). 

Success continues to follow Hana, who cleared 14 feet in her final four competitions of the spring season and grabbed three wins out of four. She finished second at the Vaulter Magazine Nationals event on July 17.
