Haley Tate of Katy Seven Lakes (TX) High School narrowed down her top choices and committed to the University of Georgia on Wednesday.
The No. 30 ranked girls recruit in the Class of 2022 chose the Bulldogs over Alabama, UCLA, Arizona State and Texas.
Tate enters her final season with personal indoor best times of 7.67 in the 60m, 24.92 for the 200m and 59.26 for the 400m. During the outdoor season, Tate has recorded performances of 11.70 in the 100m, 24.35 in the 200m and 52.97 in the 400m.
As a junior, Tate made her first state appearance as an individual at the Texas UIL State Track and Field Championships and earned a chance to line up against Texas' best athletes.
Before competing at Mike Myers Stadium, Tate had a season best time of 53.76 from the UIL 6A District 19-20 Area district meet.
But at the state championships, she put it all together. Lining up in lane one, she executed an almost perfect race, shaving almost a second off her lifetime best to cross the line in 52.97. She finished second to Kennedy Wade of Clear Falls.
Tate finished her junior season ranked No. 2 in Texas and No. 6 in the U.S. in the 400m with that performance.
