Freshman Abby Faith Cheeseman ran a superb race at the Southern Showcase on Saturday in Huntsville, Alabama. She hung tight to Crawford West's hip for most of the race and then exploded in the last kilometer to form a commanding lead. 

In her second race of the season, Cheeseman clocked a 17:19.43 and was able to win over Reagan Riley of Mountain Brook and West who finished third. Cheeseman was the only freshman to finish in the top 10 at this meet.

Sam Rich, meanwhile, left everything out on the John Hunt Running Park course. To his advantage, he competed on this course last year at the RunningLane Cross Country Championships and felt confident going into this race. 

The Notre Dame commit knew the ins and outs of the course and used that to his advantage to win the meet by 15 seconds over freshman Keegan Smith of Knoxville Catholic (TN). 

Rich finished 14 seconds faster this season than his previous performance of 14:52.51 from a year ago on this course.
