Willer Earns Big Friday Night Lights Victory
An important early-season race with state championship implications certainly posed some new questions and found some answers on Friday night in Kernersville, North Carolina.
While the Friday Night Lights championship boys race featured a handful of top 10 state championship finishers from 2020 -- and returning 3A champion Ryan Motondo of Walter Williams HS -- it was Zachary Willer who found an extra gear in the final moments to pull away.
The Stuart Cramer senior clocked a winning-time of 15:36.20, clinching the by mere seconds over South Central's Elliott Kleckner (15:37.70) and Porter Ridge's Jacob Laney (15:39.70).
Rotondo was fourth in 15:43.60 while Zachary's brother, Nicholas, was fifth in 15:44.00. A total of 13 boys broke 16 minutes on the night.
Weddington once again claimed the team title, scoring 114 points.
