The First Big Duel In Utah Pitted Two 6A Challengers Together

- - -

Lone Peak may have won the battle, but Corner Canyon's boys won the war.

On Saturday, Corner Canyon's depth reigned over Lone Peak's superiority out front as the Charger's secured an early season win at the UIAAA Invitational in Spanish Fork, compiling 26 points.

Lone Peak's Jaron Hartshorn, who finished 10th at the Utah State Class 6A Championships in 2020, claimed the overall title in the varsity boys race, producing a winning time of 15:20.41 and a 177 speed rating.

But Corner Canyon saw its first four cross the line in 3-4-5-6 and then its fifth-runner completed the tally in eighth-place, ushering in a prolific compression of 24 seconds to seal victory.

Lone Peak went 1-9-11-17-and-21 to post a 59 point bid and a 15:56.58 average.

This is just the start of what may be a fantastic Utah Class 6A run between these two teams, not to mention the likes of American Fork, Davis, Skyridge and more.

Last year, the first four finishers in the Class 6A final were separated by just 50 points. Lone Peak finished in ninth overall.

But the Knights have certainly closed the gap in the meantime.
