As the AAU Club Championships came to a close at Satellite High School in Satellite Beach, Florida this weekend, many athletes were crowned champions. A handful of athletes rewrote the record books over the last four days of the competition.
There were a total of 12 records broken this year alone.
Kicking things off on the first day of the championships, 12-year-old Samual Baker of X-Factor competed in the boys 3K.
The previous record of 9:52.31 was set by Brandon Marquez on the same day 11 years ago. Baker crossed the finish line in 9:51.50 to be the first athlete this meet to break a record and set the tone for the rest of the championship.
In the 17-18 age group, Immanual Edwards of Texas Independent Lonestar (TX), broke the 3K record by nearly six seconds. The record of 8:59.12 from Samuel Morales stood for two years. Edwards now holds the title and record with a 8:53.42.
In the field events, two girls broke a club national record in the shot put.
Meanwhile, 11-year-old Laila Jones threw 37-03 in the ring to break a six-year-old record of 34-08.75. In the 15-16 age group, Carlie Weiser added her name to the record book this year when she threw 47-03 to win the title. The UIL state champion in the discus and shot put broke the record by nearly two feet.

After four records fell on the first day of competition, two other records went down on day two in the girls' 100mH and discus.
D'Asia Duncan cleared 10 hurdles in 14.90 in the prelims. In the finals, the 13-year-old improved her time and broke Makeriah Harris' record of 14.84. She clocked a 14.73 to grab the victory by over half of a second.
Weiser continued to rack up medals and records in the girls' discus throw. She threw 155-08 to take down Meia Gordon's 146-07 club record from 2013.

The third day kicked off with the 1,500m as the first event on the track.
Drew Johnson competed in the boys' 1,500m 13-year-old age group. Since the starting gun went off, it was him against the clock.
In a solo effort, he ran a 4:22.12 to shave two seconds off the previous record of 4:24.10.
*Wendel Miller broke the 200m record twice at the AAU Club Nationals

In the men's 200m 17-18 age group, Wendel Miller of Swift Athletics tied the club national record of 20.74, which Tyrese Cooper set in 2017. Miller ran the exact same time into an ever-so-slight headwind in the prelims on the first day of the AAU Club Nationals.
On day three, the sprints really started to heat up.

In the shot put ring, J'Nia Simpson had a great performance in the 13-year-old age group. The previous record in this event was 41-09.50, which was set in 2017 by Akari Isaac.
Simpson threw 44-07 to win the event by over 10 feet.

In the 13-year-old age group, both the girls' and boys' winners left their names in the record book in the 100m.
Mekenzie Rogers tied the record of 12.15 (+1.5) with Teoana Banton from 2017.
In the boy's race, Ishmael Rolle of Swift Athletics clocked a 11.32 (+0.1). Rolle was able to lower the record by .03.
* Samirah Moody won the women's 17-18 100m

Samirah Moody, a senior from Buckingham Browne & Nichols (MA), made a statement in the 17-18 age group.
She improved on her personal best and set a new club record of 11.48. Her performance ties her for US No. 7.
