AUSTIN, TEXAS -- The state of Texas is known for fast sprints, and on Saturday night at Mike Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas, they did not disappoint.

Both the UIL Class 6A boys 100m and 200m fields were loaded with some of the state and nation's top talent. The 100m race kicked things off in an exciting fashion.

After some early nerves and an initial false start, the race got off.

The Woodlands College Park (TX)  senior Connor Washingtonwho came into the field with a seed time of 10.20, got out to an early lead after a strong start.

Halfway through the race, Harlingen's (TX) Jose Garcia -- who came in with the fastest seed time of 10.17 seconds (+4.1) -- started to challenge him on the outside.

The two were a few steps ahead of the rest of the field and crossed the line neck-and-neck.

Washington took a big dive at the end but would ultimately come up 0.001 short. Garcia would finish with a 9.998, which rounded up to 10.00 while Washington finished with a 9.999 also rounded up to a 10.00.

Both times were heavily wind-aided with a +5.7 meters/second wind, but they each rank at US No. 1 and 2 on the year for all conditions -- not to mention, they also tie with Cherryville (NC) graduate Trentavis Friday for the US No. 3 all-conditions all-time marks.
