An elite field of high school girls toed the line at the Kansas City Qualifier on Saturday.
It sure didn't disappoint.
One of the nation's top freshman turned it up a notch in the final meters, though not without a final challenge from a tried-and-true athlete from Oregon.
In the end, Normal Community High School's Allison Ince captured the win in a US No. 10 and a No. 1 freshman performance of 4:50.49, while Jesuit's Chloe Foerster was second in 4:50.55.
If you can remember way back in February, Ince was a revelation at adidas Indoor Nationals, clocking a No. 4 all-time freshman 800m and a No. 5 all-time freshman mile, the former of which netted her an indoor national title.
Note:
A big shout out goes out to Trials of Miles meet director Dave Alfano and Kansas MileSplit Rod Murrow. Alfano orchestrated the event and pro fields, while Murrow, a long-time coach in Kansas who's written some fantastic stories and essays on MileSplit, compiled the high school section. You can find more content of the meet and photos on the organization's Instagram page here.
