On the first day of adidas Indoor Nationals on Friday, IMG Academy (FL) set a tone that it was ready to have a huge set of performances.
But perhaps the Ascenders' most surprising performer came was Adam Landen, who set two personal bests in the prelims of the 200m and 400m of the boys championship divison at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex.
The senior began his day running alongside his teammate Ashton Schwartzman in the 400m prelim, shaving just over a second off his previous best to finish second to Schwartzman in the second heat. Schwartzman clocked the fastest time of the day with a 48.62 while Landen grabbed the third-fastest time with a 48.98.
About six hours later, Landen lined up once again on the track for the 200m prelims. Here he won the eighth heat in a blazing 21.61 and set a personal best by nearly a half of a second.
Landen will run the championship final for the 200m on Saturday at 5:55pm EST and the 400m final on Sunday at 12:10pm EST.
