Sometimes it's not always about what heat you're in or just whom you competing against, but how exactly you perform.
While Senegal raced in one of five invitational sections of the 300m on Saturday, she lined up for Heat 12 of the 500m on Sunday, as the meet was heading into its final hours.
No big deal.
The St. Louis High School senior dropped a US No. 2 performance of 1:14.92, winning her heat by six seconds. She would become one of just two girls -- joining Sophia Gorriaran -- to break 1:15 in the event over the weekend, and entered into the top 100 performances at the distance all-time.
A day prior, she scored a US No. 9 effort in the 300m in 39.75, finishing third overall in Heat 5 to Sanaa Hebron (39.14) and Mia O'Neil (39.49).
For an athlete trying to show her range -- she ran 55.31 in the 400m in July and 2:14.19 in the 800m in August -- Senegal certainly accomplished that objective.
Next up: States.
