* Bethany Michalak won her first 4A Colorado State Championship as a freshman

It was a battle of the freshman at the Colorado Class 4A State Championships.
Up until this race, Air Academy's Bethany Michalak and Niwot's Mia Prok had not lost a race. And here, yet again, they showed zero weaknesses as they both led their teams.
But there could only be one state title, so the pressure was on.
Michalak and Prok were within striking distance of each other throughout the race. As the girls came around the final turn and down the homestretch, Michalak had the lead and crossed the finish line in 17:59.10. She was the only girl in this class to break 18 minutes for 5K.
Prok finished in a close second with 18:02.40 and led Niwot to the team title.
