Charlotte Bednar ran the second-fastest girls 5K on the famed Holmdel course in New Jersey in November, winning the Holmdel Invitational in 17:21 to sterling reviews.
The only girl who has run faster on the course all-time was Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland (NY) when she ran a 16:21 at the 2018 Shore Coaches Invitational.
But the Lawrenceville School (NJ) junior had some pressure from Angelina Perez the first mile. Bednar came through in 5:40 and continued to add a few strides of separation when she exited the uphill bowl. As the juniors entered the second mile, Bednar had about a six-second lead over Perez.
The girls pushed down the grassy homestretch in the 5K race. Bednar won the race and Perez finished second with a 17:36. Perez's time ties for the fourth-fastest all-time on this course.
