Nate Jaster Earns His First Utah State Title With A Career Performance
Nate Jaster's final move at the Utah state championships must have been jarring.
Because the images at the finish line told a larger story.
While Jaster, the American Fork senior, came blitzing across the line in a clear sign of confidence, Skyridge's Creed and Davin Thompson looked less so just 11 and 23 seconds later. The trio were three of six runners under 17 minutes on the course during the race -- only seven broke 17 minutes all together across three classifications.
But perhaps that only revealed the momentous day for Jaster, who grabbed his first state championship on a devilishly hard course -- at Soldier Hollow in Wasatch -- one that did not produce a single effort under 16 minutes for 5K.
Jaster finished in 16:09.8, which earned him a 193 speed rating for his effort. He had finished 19th the season before.
Ultimately, it would be just one of two wins on the season for the senior, who would also go on to finish third at the RunningLane XC National Championships a month later in Alabama.
