Gavin Schurr Racks Up December Distinction In Style

Fairview High School's Gavin Schurr clocked the second fastest 60 meter run in December history on Saturday at the VA Beach Club Opener in Virginia Beach, Virginia, finishing in 6.73 seconds to set an extremely high bar at US No. 1 to open up the indoor season.

That performance was only behind the December record of 6.70 seconds, which Trentavis Friday ran at the NCRunners Elite Holiday Invitational in 2013. Schurr's time now stands at No. 41 all-time among fastest performances by a single athlete, and No. 74 when including multiple peformances by an athlete.

After Schurr opened up the event with a time of 6.91 seconds in the preliminaries, behind Mountain Island Charter's Trevin Moyer, who ran 6.85, the Colorado athlete stepped to Lane 5 in the finals and left no doubt.

Schurr cleaned up in the final 30 meters as he led three boys at times of 6.80 seconds or faster. Thomas Worthington's Justin Braun, who later ran 47.82 seconds in the 400m, was second overall in 6.79, while Moyer followed in third in 6.80.

On Friday, Schurr also set a new national 200m lead with a time of 21.28 seconds, which also made him the second fastest athlete at the distance in December history, only behind Brian Herron -- the former Georgia athlete ran 20.95 and 21.22 in December over the 2017 and 2016 seasons, respectively.
