When New Balance severed ties with the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation in May, it effectively split the national high school indoor track and field champinoships into two potential events.
The NSAF responded in May by saying it would continue to hold an owned-and-operated event, while New Balance in turn expressed that it would continue to hold its New Balance Nationals meet in 2021 -- before eventually moving the competition to The Track At New Balance, a newly constructed and state-of-the-art indoor venue with a hydraulic track.
That left NSAF searching for a new partner, and a new facility.
On Monday, the organization -- which had to cancel both its indoor and outdoor track and field championships in 2020 due to precautions around COVID-19 -- announced it had found a new home for an indoor national championship event in 2021.
NSAF will operate The National Scholastic Athletic Foundation's Indoor Nationals at the Ocean Breeze Athletics Complex in Staten Island, New York from March 11-14.
And much like its outdoor national meet, which had in recent years begun to offer freshman and youth events, the new 4-day event will have championship divisions devoted to athletes as young as middle-school age.
A naming sponsor for the new championship is still being sought by NSAF. New Balance, meanwhile, has not yet named a date for its indoor championship in 2021.
Built in 2015, Ocean Breeze's state-of-the-art hydraulic track has become a championship-level destination in the Northeast. In recent years its held various New York-level high school meets, along with the USATF Indoor Championships and the USATF National Youth Championships.
