As a sophomore, Jenna Hutchins ran her fastest 5K of the season on the fast Casa Grande course at Nike Desert Twilight meet in Arizona.
She earned a 150 speed rating after she crossed the finish line in 16:38.97, which was nine seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Hutchins ultimately finished her 2019 season as the top sophomore and the top overall underclassman. And her effort at Desert Twilight was also the fifth-fastest time of the year in the country. Hutchins was one of 20 athletes to run a sub-17 minute for 5K.
So far during the 2020 season, the Science Hill (TN) junior has run the second-fastest time in the nation with a 16:25.08 at the Chickasaw Invitational in Oakville, Alabama, and earned a 165 speed rating -- the highest of her career.
The 2020 version of the Nike Desert Invitational is scheduled to take place on October 1-3 in Arizona.
