Ten years.

From the time Valarie Allman was 15 years old, it's taken 10 years for the Silver Creek High School and Stanford University graduate to earn that newly-minted American discus record -- she accomplished the mark on Saturday -- and the new World Athletics lead of 70.15 meters (230-2). 

Just how much has she improved over that stretch? 

Nearly 40 meters. 

The exact number of improvement from her best actual throw as a high school freshman (30.53 meters) to now would be 39.62 meters, though in reality it's a little more than that. The very first throw MileSplit has on record for Allman in 2010 is actually 21.40 meters (70-2).

But nonetheless, that's pretty crazy. 

On Saturday, Allman, an Oiselle athlete, looked flawless in the circle in Rathdrum, Idaho, en route to her new record. That mark broke Gia Lewis-Smallwood's previous six-year-old USA-leading effort of 69.17 meters (226-11) by almost four feet.
