
Between the years 2017 and 2019, William Chaffin shaved a total of 55 seconds off of his personal best in the two mile. This is the most improvement from any male or female in the mile and two mile events. His times showed remarkable improvement in 2019 when Chaffin ran the nation's 27th fastest time in the event. He was 73rd in 2018 and 245th in 2017.
During his freshman year, he ran the 24th fastest time in the 2020 class. Chaffin placed 15th at his first Massachusetts Eastern Division 2 Outdoor Championships. A year later, he placed 25th at his outdoor state meet, but his time improved by seven seconds. His fastest time that year of 9:37.36 was the seventh fastest time within the 2020 class.
