New Balance Nationals Outdoor, a national championship-style track and field event in its 30th year featuring unattached high school athletes from across the country, has been moved to July due to COVID-19, the National Scholastic Athletics Foundation announced recently.
Typically held in June at North Carolina A&T University's Aggie Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina, the event has been pushed to July 16-19 at the same venue.
"These are tentative dates and depend totally on the guidance of national, state and local government," the NSAF said on its website. "We will continue to post updates as further definitive information is available (hopefully next 2-4 weeks). We continue to be cautiously optimistic we can host the meet on the new scheduled dates and wish everyone good health and safety in the meantime."
The NSAF was forced to cancel New Balance Nationals Indoor in March, just a few days from its event, following a rash of cases of COVID-19 in New York City and the city's lockdown to prevent further spread.
As far as qualiyfing performances are concerned, the NSAF wrote, the organization is accepting marks from the 2020 indoor and 2019 outdoor seasons. Freshmen qualifying performances have also been eased.
Registration is open for NBNO, though the NSAF said it will not accept payments until there is confirmation the event will take place.
