Not often do we see talents at the level of Athing Mu.
A senior at Trenton Central High School who's competed for her club team, Trenton Track Club, across her high school career, Mu has redefined middle distance success at the high school level. With outdoor personal bests of 23.63 seconds (200 meters), 51.98 (400 meters) and 2:01.17 (800 meters), she is the top-ranked recruit in our MileSplit Top 50 Recruit Rankings, beating out arguably the greatest high school cross country runner ever (Katelyn Tuohy) for that top spot.
What's set her apart over her high school career, however, is her ability to race at the biggest stage and not back down. A year ago, that took the form of the U.S. Outdoor Championships, where Mu battled through two rounds to make the finals. She eventually ran a career best time of 2:01.17, just missing the World Championship roster.
