Who remembers the monster kick from Isaac Trevino of Centennial High School (CA) to win the boys 800m Invitational in 2015? He snagged the title ahead of Arturo Sotomayor of Roseville (CA) by .03! Carlton Orange of Memphis University (TN) led most of the race but crossed the line in third.
Orange kept his composure and ran comfortably throughout the first lap of the race. With about 300m to go, the pack began to push the pace. Sotomayor began to add some pressure with 150m left. About 40m left to the finish line, Trevino comes out of no where and catches both Sotomayer and Orange with just enough time to win the title. Trevino stopped the clock at 1:51.51, just by .03 over Sotomayor. Orange comes across the line with a 1:51.75.
In 2015, Orange was ranked US No. 2 in with a time of 1:47.67. Donovan Brazier of Grand Rapids Kenowa (MI) led the nation with a 1:47.55. Trevino was tied for 36th in the US and Sotomayor finished the year tied for 45th.
