Harrier Headlines Wk#2: Verzbicas solo 14:19 3-mile | Burnt Hills(NY) rolls | Sargent blitzes 17:48

NATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS

John Viking Invitational(PA): Freshman Sara Sargent, Pennsbury, ran away from the field early on her way to a convincing course record win with a time of 17:48 on a legit 5k course.  The first time ever under 18:00 for the course puts Sara on the national radar as the second frosh in as many weeks to rip into the headlines with a head-turning performance.  What an exciting season this is shaping up to be!

 

Eye Opener Invitational(SC): Laura Hoer, TC Roberson(NC), won the girls International race by 26 seconds with a time of 18:35.  TC Roberson won the team title with 3 in the top-5 and a score of 59 points.

 

Lyons Invitational (IL): Lukas Verzbicas, rips an impressive 14:19.76 3-mile to win by nearly a minute. The super soph is currently the top ranked runner nationally. Lukas had a chance to speak with our own Aaron Rich following the race. "Lyons was one of those races to see if my form is improving or not, I ran all alone. By the performances I saw from Dathan Ritzenhein and Matthew Tegenkamp I have hope that I can be a great runner. I plan on competing at both NXN and Footlocker, but will be competing first in the Duathlon World Junior Championships on September 26th " ~Lukas Verzbicas

 

Marcus Invitational (TX): Undefeated Craig Lutz claims 5000m victory in 15:13 to lead US#20 Marcus to victory. Undefeated Chelsey Sviensson ran wild to a 10:45 two-mile victory as well.

 

Lobo Invitational (NM): US#9 Albuquerque Academy rolls to victory over the 5000m Lobo Invitational running a 36 second 1-5 spread to win with 50 team points.

 

Wesley Frazier(NC) is at it again with another dual meet victory on her home course, this time bettering her course record to a 17:36.  We will get our first real good look at Wesley on the weekend of 9/19 when she will race at the 16th annual Reebok Wolfpack HS Cross Country Invitational, the same course that will later host the Great American XC Festival.

 

Frosh Kaelyn Balch(KS), blazed a 14:39 on a tough 4k course at the Bishop Carroll XC Invite to beat defending state champion Mackenzie Maki by 10 seconds.

 

Bob McDaniel Invite(NY): Max Straneva, Chenango Valley, runs to a solo victory in his home invitational with a time of 17:11.

 

Niskayuna XC Ekiden(NY): Burnt Hills girls put two relay teams out front in the 4x2500 meter race with times of 39:11 and 40:13.  Burnt Hills Kiersten Anderson had the fastest 2500 meter split by 37 seconds with a time of 9:06.30.  Shenendehowa won the boys relay with a time of 32:33 behind the quick running of Dan Harris, who split 7:49.70 for his 2500 meter leg.

 

Tooele Invitational (UT): Bingham is back, boys average 15:41 over 3-miles! Looks like Utah has a new #1 team. Win with 25 team points. Front four had a 10 second spread! (15:26, 15:28, 15:35, 15:36, 16:20); then travel to 6000ft elevation to win the brutal Soda Springs Cardinal Classic with 56 points over Highland (ID)
