MileSplit50 Boys Team Rankings Countdown

Analysis: The guys from Wheaton Warrenville South made it to their first Nike Cross Nationals meet ever as a team last year. At nationals, they were the highest placing team from the Midwest region even though they took second at the region meet. The guys from Wheaton Warrenville South placed 13th at nationals while Heresy (IL) the team that won the midwest region meet placed 19th. Wheaton Warrenville South used its lower 1-5 spread of :33-seconds to gain an advantage in the deeper field. They also had a better team average than Hersey at the national meet running an average of 16:15 to Hersey's 16:20. Last year at the Illinois state meet, Wheaton Warrenville South also beat Hersey by a score of 116 to 156, by again having a lower 1-5 team spread. This year that spread could be in jeopardy if they don't find guys to replace 2019 graduates Scott and Sean Maison, both of whom were important to their top five and keeping the spread low. The team will return its front runner in rising senior William Hauenstein, who was their lead guy at both the IHSA Cross Country State Championship (8th) and the Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional Championships (14th). A big part of how this team performs in 2019 will depend upon how much their sixth and seventh runners improved from 2018 to 2019.
