Analysis: Last track season Cruz Culpepper was the Colorado State Track and Field Champion in the Class 4A 800m and 1600m. The rising senior clocked a 1:52.93 in the 800m for a new PR and a 4:16.69 in the 1600m. He was also fifth at the Brooks PR invitational mile, running 4:06.05, and was second a week before that at the Music City Distance Carnival where he ran a Mile PR of 4:04.82. He also PR'd in the 3200m, running a 9:12.79 at the Arcadia Invitational. On the cross-country course in 2018 he finished first in the Class 4A Colorado State Cross Country Championships race and was only slightly off making Foot Locker Nationals when he placed 25th at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional. His best race of the 2018 cross-country season may have been his battle against Valor Christian's (CO) Cole Sprout at the Nike Desert Twilight Festival where he ultimately placed second, running a 5K XC PR of 14:43.60.
