21. Flower Mound (TX)

Analysis: While Natalie Cook was fifth at last year's Class 6A state championship and 10th at NXR South, there's a sense that she's out to prove she's the state's best in 2019. And that drive will only help Flower Mound, which was shockingly upset by Coppell in that 6A matchup last fall but whom eventually redeemed itself with a qualifier to Nike Cross Nationals following a win at NXR South. Flower Mound remains very strong in 2019, returning six of seven from last year's squad. The team only lost Anastaysia Davis and returns two underclassmen in its top five. Cook is the star of the bunch, having run 17:03.91 at the state championships and two other occasions under 18 minutes for 5K. Her outdoor season saw times of 4:50.09 in the 1,600m and 10:24.96 in the 3,200m. But while Cook might be regularly in the 17s, her team largely will be under 19. Allison Buemi, Hannah Mclaughlin, Mia Hoang and Allie Lyda complete a strong corps that combine with Cook to average 18:19.84 for 5K.

Biggest question: Just how good is Flower Mound?

Depending on how you look at it, the NXR South region is either vastly overrated or underrated in terms of the kind of talent it brings to the big stage. Flower Mound had a bumpy few weeks last year, losing to Coppell, then winning NXR South, then was underwhelming at NXN. Just what will we see from this team in 2019? Will it be consistency? How often will Flower Mound dominate? The Jaguars will get plenty of chances to prove their worth.
